4:29Now PlayingWith a lead of 155 seats in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to win a record-breaking seventh consecutive term. With the Congress leading the BJP in only 19 seats, the party's position as the principal opposition party is under jeopardy (down 59). The Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, which began an aggressive campaign to make it a three-cornered battle for the first time in Gujarat, is in the lead in six seats. Gujarat has 182 seats, which are distributed among 33 districts, with an average voter turnout of 64.33 percent. Gujarat has been a BJP stronghold for approximately 27 years at this point. If the saffron party wins in Gujarat, it will become the only party besides the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to have won seven successive Assembly elections, continuing its winning record for a seventh term.
