4:13Now PlayingChinese forces were performing a normal patrol on their side of the border on Friday when they came across "illegal obstruction" from Indian troops who had crossed the boundary, according to senior colonel Long Shaohua, a spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army's Western theater. Long stated that Beijing demanded New Delhi "strictly regulate its frontline soldiers" in order to maintain border calm, and that China handled the matter in a "professional, standard, and firm" manner. Rajnath Singh, India's defence minister, confirmed the battle between Indian and Chinese forces last week in the border state of Arunachal Pradesh, marking the first such incident between the two nations in roughly two years. After hundreds of Chinese soldiers crossed into India's territory on December 9, troops from both sides "exchanged blows," said Singh. The issue has been brought up diplomatically by India with Beijing, and military leaders from both countries have spoken about it.
