Chidambaram questioned the "slow and sluggish" private investment of the Narendra Modi-led administration. "If God is in heaven, the BJP is in power, and everything is fine, the investment climate is absolutely ideal, so why aren't they investing despite giving the corporate sector a massive bonanza?" He further said that, "When you leave office in ten years, would you be able to double the GDP that you inherited? I salute you if you are able to." In order to obtain authorization for the payment and appropriation of funds from the Consolidated Funds of India, the Rajya Sabha has taken up two appropriation bills.
