India's economy expands significantly and more than expected during the quarter. GDP growth in Q4 FY23 was 6.1% as opposed to Q3's 4.4% growth rate. Overall, the 7.2% growth in the FY23 fiscal year is more than anticipated. However, compared to FY22, when growth was 9.5%, FY23 growth has decreased. Street anticipated a 4.5% increase for the fourth quarter. In FY23, the Indian government met its goal of a 6.4% GDP fiscal deficit. We are joined by Arvind Panagariya who will be expressing his views on this issue. "Back in November I was saying that we will easily cross 8%. We didn't cross 8% principally because the older number for 2021-22 got revised,' stated Arvind Panagariya, Professor Economics, Columbia University
