Khan has been prohibited from running for or holding office, and he is now serving jail sentences in many cases. Following his removal in a no-confidence vote in parliament in April 2022, Sharif took over as prime minister. Sharif received 201 votes, according to Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, beating Omar Ayub of the Sunni Ittehad Council, who received 92 votes. It takes just 169 votes for the winner to earn a majority.
