Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gangopadhyay has made the decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gangopadhyay had also had a clash with a senior judge for overruling his decision during his almost forty-year tenure, which included five years as a high court judge. When the Supreme Court stepped in and placed the issue before itself, the conflict that had taken place in January 2024 was ultimately resolved.
