A Missouri county prosecutor has been removed from office following explosive allegations involving romantic relationships, serious conflicts of interest, and an accused sex offender she allegedly helped leave the state.

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway accused Ray County Prosecutor Camille Johnston of having an intimate relationship with a criminal-defense attorney whose clients she was responsible for prosecuting. Johnston was also accused of helping former boyfriend Juan David Gutierrez leave Missouri after he was accused of sexual assault—including allegedly providing him with her vehicle and failing to disclose his location to investigators.

But the controversy doesn’t end there. Johnston is also facing a civil defamation lawsuit from former Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers over statements she allegedly made during a county budget meeting.
