The State Department now wants visa applicants to swear they don’t fear harm back home before entering the U.S. ⚠️ A new directive requires officers to ask if you’ve suffered harm or fear returning, and a “yes” means your visa will be denied 🚨 This could shut down a key pathway for people trying to reach safety. And it raises serious risks for those who later apply for asylum 💔 Historically, if someone said “no” at the visa stage and later applied for asylum, that wasn’t held against them. It was understood that people fleeing persecution may need to lie to escape ⚖️ But that could change.
