His book offers a detailed analysis of the extended American involvement in Afghanistan by tracing the history of U.S. relations with the Karzai family. Moderates, the Karzais allied with the West after 9/11 to remove the Taliban from power. But as mistakes and misunderstandings frayed the initial partnership, tensions grew between the two countries and among the Karzai brothers.
