The result was first a popular BBC show and now this wide-ranging and colorful book. As he follows figures including the Buddha, a Sanskrit linguist, Gandhi, as well as warriors, artists, and entrepreneurs, Khilnani looks not only at India’s past and present but at how its history informs life there today.
