Olaf Olafsson discusses his novel, "The Sacrament", with Bergdis Ellertsdottir Iceland's Ambassador to the United States.

Written with the lyrical prose that distinguished The Journey Home, Absolution, and other novels, Olafsson’s new book is an intricately plotted psychological thriller that centers on unanswered questions surrounding a Catholic school in his native Iceland. Sent by the Vatican to investigate charges of sexual abuse, a nun arrives the day the school’s headmaster falls to his death from the bell tower. Was this an admission of guilt, an accident, or a crime? Twenty years later, summoned by the only student who witnessed the death, the nun returns to Iceland and reckons with the unknowns of her own past.

Olaf Olafsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1962. He studied physics as a Wien scholar at Brandeis University. He is the author of five previous novels, The Journey Home, Absolution, Walking into the Night, Restoration, and One Station Away, and a story collection, Valentines. He is executive vice president of Time Warner and lives in New York City with his wife and three children.
