The investigation into the cause of the blackout in Spain and Portugal is ongoing but it’s already clear that Spain’s heavy reliance on solar was a key factor. As Rystad Energy explained this morning, Spain’s reliance on solar “contributed to the initial grid fluctuation” and made the “system more sensitive to voltage instability.”
