Roland Martin says Donald Trump sold the country a fantasy about a booming economy and a new golden era. The July jobs report says otherwise: 23,000 jobs lost, downward revisions for prior months, and more signs that working people are getting squeezed while the spin machine keeps running.

Morgan Harper, Director of Policy and Advocacy at the American Economic Liberties Project, says the report is bad on its face and gets worse under the surface. She points to a 75,000-job decline in manufacturing since the start of the Trump administration, a labor participation rate at its lowest level since February 2021, and wages that are not keeping up with inflation. Morgan says the only real job growth is in health care, which undercuts the administration’s claims about a manufacturing revival.

Roland and Morgan also take aim at the lie behind the hype. Trump keeps claiming the economy is booming, but Morgan says the people doing well are billionaires and multimillionaires while working America is left to pick up the pieces. Roland hammers the absurd spin coming from Trump allies who want people to ignore the worst numbers and pretend the report is stronger than it is. The larger point is simple: the economy is not booming for working people, and the facts are getting harder and harder for even Fox News to hide.
