4:21Now PlayingTexas Gov. Gregg Abbott just threw Elon Musk under the bus, and Musk didn't really try that hard to get out from under it. On CNBC, Abbott said that business leaders like Elon Musk are flocking to Texas to avoid liberal policies in blue states. He specifically named Elon Musk as one of the folks he talks to regularly, who support his policies. When asked about it, the Tesla CEO dodged and said he doesn't do politics.

Sam: Here is Greg Abbott with CNBC's Morgan Brennan.
Brennan: Sir are you saying that all of these policies are actually helping to bolster business? Abbott: Right now again people vote with their feet and this is not slowing down businesses coming to the state of texas at all. In fact, it is accelerating the process of businesses coming to texas. particularly morgan interestingly they are leaving the very liberal state of California. and I got to tell you whether it be Elon Musk who I talked to frequently Elon had to get out of California because in part of the social policies in California. and Elon consistently tells me that he likes the social policies in the state of Texas.
Sam: Do we hear from Elon about this at all?
Matt: Well we have Elon's reply in the comments that's a Squawk Box video they tweeted out. I don't know if you have it Bradley. he says in general I believe the government should rarely impose its will upon the people and when doing so should aspire to maximize their accumulative happiness. that said I would prefer to stay out of politics so I mean just nonsense.
Sam: And then right right in other words I'm not involved with politics when I speak to the governor of the state on a regular basis.
Matt: right and also the governor who says voting is voting with your feet. so by you know not leaving texas I guess we can see what Elon wants.
Sam: But I mean this is what's interesting to note here is the idea that Elon musk apparently did not dispute the fact that he talks to Greg Abbott on a regular basis. does not believe he's involved in politics. my getting tax breaks. my infrastructure. I am getting policies that make it easier for me to exploit my workers. None of these things are political. they're just my business interests. I mean no, that's what politics is. Politics is who the governor works for. when Elon musk shows up and says I need policies that are going to make it easier for me to exploit my workers. Politics is the governor saying yeah no. I get too much support from the unions. or I get too much support from your workers. when Elon musk gets and says like I need help with infrastructure for my factories. That's politics.
Matt: I need a contract from several different municipal governments to put a dumb tunnel under their city.
Sam: exactly. That's all politics. it is all politics. But that is what you know many of the people on the right and I'm sure there's some measure on the left well I don't know about the left but in the center-left. they perceive political enterprises and the government as simply an extension of their business. it's like why do I sit on the board of the united way. well because I network there. and I develop connections with people. and so if I need you to know you know I need a friend in the trucking industry. I've got one that sits on the board too. That's the way they work I mean and particularly in local governments. the more local you get the more it becomes that way. You can run Elon musk but you cannot hide. I'm not political, I just am in the chat section when Greg Abbott goes on television.
Matt: I appreciate Abbott just bringing him up like that.
