Sam: It's fun to be able to talk about things where there's a political advantage for democrats and a massive public policy advantage for all of us. You know in moving from the vaccine mandate to you know what's winding through congress as we speak there are five committees that are you know looking at different aspects of the 3.5 trillion dollar budget bill. the reconciliation bill. and here's how to know to tie in on your story. Joe Manchin comes out last week or end of last week maybe beginning this week and says yeah I’m looking at something that's more like one trillion dollars I could see myself going up to 1.5 trillion dollars but 3.5 trillion dollars we couldn't possibly do because and then mumble mumble something inflation mumble. I don't know what else comes after those words but it's just sort of mumble mumble. Institutions senate something something. So like first off what's your sense and there was already I think Stephanie Murphy came out and said from Florida in the house that she's not she's gonna vote against it already because it's not she doesn't have enough time to read it. And what's your sense of where it's that what the was it what’s the state of play in the house and you know the senate and then let's talk about the implications of your you know blockbuster story. Because you know people say joe Biden LBJ well LBJ would be would have would he know what to do with this you know what to do with that story it seems to me.
Grim: So then the house is I think yes Stephanie murphy likely no. Curt Schroeder former head of the blue dogs I think is a pretty solid no. Jared Golden lean no but like gettable. But then everybody else like every pretty much everybody else is a likely you know is gettable. like those are the two.
Sam: And they have a margin-right although they have Alcy Hastings seat is open and Shontel Brown will win in November. and the Ohio governor did like did an incredible job screwing Democrats. In keeping that seat open as long as humanly possible. Which is gonna which there were plenty of other people to run hud. Like Biden didn't need to and and and Pelosi finally was like stop like after he picked plucked Deb Holland out of the house. He's like she's like stop like what are you doing you're making my job much harder. Because you give me a much thinner margin and then if somebody dies like Alcy Hastings right you know that election so you know their cushion grows the longer they wait but the longer they wait the harder it gets. So know it's still alive. but yes so in the senate it's Biden you know it's Manchin and Sinema. But with Manchin really stealing a lot of that thunder a lot of that spotlight. And yeah so he said he doesn't want to do 3.5 trillion. 1 to 1.5. and he even said in the Wall Street Journal anybody who thinks this is political posturing should just consider the words of Admiral Mike Mullen who said that national security is compromised by the deficit. It's like you set us up there like you're about to say something important. And then you finish the sentence with the deficit but Mike Mullen talking about the deficit. What does he know about the deficit?
Sam: Well but now wait a second see here's the thing that I don't even understand that as a talking point because is the reconciliation bill at least in the context of like 10 years out now we know there are all sorts of gimmicks and whatnot and you know associated with this. But my understanding is like doesn't that have to be deficit-neutral under the reconciliation rules?
