The speakers highlighted how the shutdown is delaying putting people to work repairing aging infrastructure in projects authorized in the Water Resources Development Act, as well as impeding the clean-up actions needed to protect families living near Superfund toxic waste sites, creating economic losses to local businesses that rely heavily on outdoor recreation, and stopping the creation of critically important worker safety protections at dangerous chemical facilities.
