Jubilee’s new Checkmate format puts a heated Israel debate to the test by fact-checking both sides in real time.
In this reaction, I respond to Nick Matau and other pro-Israel debaters as they face opponents arguing that supporting Israel is not America First and that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
The discussion covers U.S. military aid to Israel, the Israel-America alliance, Hezbollah and Lebanon, Iran, weapons development, American jobs, intelligence cooperation, Gaza, Hamas, civilian casualties, genocide allegations, ethnic cleansing, hostage exchanges, and the legal definition of genocide.
Nick confidently challenges his opponents to fact-check his claims, while several arguments from both sides are tested by Jubilee’s researchers. By the point where this reaction ends, the pro-Israel side holds a narrow lead in the fact-check score.
I also explain why Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah cannot be understood without considering Hezbollah’s attacks, why intent matters when evaluating genocide accusations, and why Hamas’s ideology and use of civilian infrastructure remain central to the debate.
Did the facts favor the pro-Israel side, or did Jubilee’s fact-checking leave out important context?
