Victor Davis Hanson is sounding the alarm over Zohran Mamdani’s political direction in New York City — arguing that Mamdani’s democratic socialist agenda could move the city much further to the left.
Mamdani openly identifies as a democratic socialist and has said he intends to govern according to those principles. His agenda emphasizes a larger government role in housing, childcare, affordability and economic redistribution.
But Victor Davis Hanson sees something much more dangerous.
Hanson has repeatedly criticized Mamdani’s economic philosophy, redistribution policies and rhetoric, at times going so far as to describe him as a communist and warn that his political movement represents a much broader ideological shift on the American left.
