15:12Now PlayingHistorical Materialism is a concept given by Karl Marx. Karl Marx believed that “Ultimate cause which determines the whole course of human history is the economic development of society”. This is also known as “Materialistic conception of history”. Hegel and Marx termed it as the “Scientific” method because it is not a philosophy but of observations of real conditions. Marx believed that process of material production holds the key to man’s social life. Changes in this process are the result of historical development. The mode of production in any given society is consists of two things. The first is “Forces of production” and the second is “Relation of production”. Forces of production further consist of means of production and labor power.
Marx believed that at every stage of history, owners of the mean of production constitute the dominant class and those left with labor power constitute the dependent class. “At a certain stage, the material productive forces of society come in conflict with the existing relations of production”. This intensification leads to the collapse of the existing relation of production.
