Matthew Murphy is a retired US Army Green Beret, Special Forces Sniper and Unconventional Warfare expert. He served in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, speaks Levantine and Modern Standard Arabic, and went on to found Operation Light Shine, a non-profit combating human trafficking and pedophilia. He later became President of the Sentinel Foundation before moving full-time into private military and intelligence contracting.

Kamal Alam is a Syrian military historian specializing in contemporary Middle Eastern warfare. He was a Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) from 2015–2019, is a Fellow for Syrian Affairs at The Institute for Statecraft, and was a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council. He has advised the British Army’s Chief of Defence Staff on Middle East and Afghanistan, and has been involved in Saudi–Pakistan–Syria security dialogue during the war.
