The Sixth Commandment — Thou shalt not kill — isn’t just about murder. It’s about protecting life.
Your life.
And that means it’s not just about what you might do to someone else. It’s about what you do to yourself.
When you neglect your health.
When you constantly feed your body things that destroy it.
When you avoid exercise, let your strength fade, and push your body toward disease and breakdown.
When you drown in stress and never tend to your mental and spiritual well-being.
Every time we do this, we chip away at the temple God has given us.
The temple of the Holy Spirit.
Made in the Imago Dei — the very image of God.
And here’s the cosmic reality: when you hate your body, you’re not just rejecting your reflection.
You’re rejecting the One whose image you carry.
You’re telling the Divine Artist that His work isn’t good enough.
That’s not just bad health… that’s a spiritual problem.
Caring for your body isn’t vanity — it’s virtue.
It’s stewardship.
It’s living out the Fifth and Sixth Commandments in the most personal way.
So in your next examination of conscience, ask yourself:
Am I protecting the life God gave me?
Or am I letting it slowly slip away?
