This past week, the lawyers for Ms. Carroll rested their case in the battery and defamation trial currently ongoing between the author and the former president. Carroll accuses Trump of rape, stemming from an incident in the spring of 1996. The trial lasted 7 days, and we’re now waiting on what the outcome of this widely publicized case will be.
The trial consisted of the prosecution bringing witnesses, along with Ms Carroll herself, to the stand to testify about their memories of the assault. Beyond Carroll’s gut-wrenching descriptions, two of her friends took the stand to corroborate her story and recall Carroll telling them about it shortly after it happened. Trump’s legal team did not bring any witnesses or provide evidence, and simply cross-examined each of the prosecution's witnesses. Also after teasing that he might show up in court to testify, the Orange Menace chickened out and left his lawyers to clean up his mess.
