Immigration policy in the U.S. has been draconian for a while now, under both Republican and Democratic administrations. What is happening under the Trump regime however, is a terrifying escalation. Not only are undocumented immigrants being grabbed off the streets, even legal permanent residents are being disappeared. Now that Trump is openly defying the Supreme Court in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the rule of law is over, and no immigrant in the U.S. is safe.
To make matters worse, immigrants who followed all the rules while entering this country are now having their legal documentation weaponized against them. The IRS is turning over the Social Security information of immigrants over to ICE. Over 900,000 immigrants who used Biden’s CBP One app when entering the U.S. just had their legal status revoked, thanks to their information being available through the app. At this point, they would be safer if they weren’t legal.
