This was a tough look for Bernie… Sanders let a pro Palestine protester get thrown out of his event.
Bernie Sanders and AOC have been going around the country on their Fighting Oligarchy tour. They have been staging these events in primarily red states, and the turnouts have been huge. In large part, the message of working class solidarity at these rallies has been energizing, and desperately needed with Trump’s authoritarianism running rampant. That being said, it is rare for leadership in movements to be perfect, and Bernie definitely dropped the ball at this event.
At a recent tour stop in Idaho, someone in the crowd unfurled a Free Palestine flag behind the stage. Security took the flag away from the protester, and proceeded to escort them out of the event. Bernie’s response to all of this was to do nothing… Not exactly the solidarity we need in this moment. The majority of Americans want to end Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, so it is about time that Bernie fully gets behind this movement.
