31:50Now PlayingNo one wants to talk about the climate crisis because of how big and terrifying it all feels. But the truth is, there is one main source of our global emissions that could be stopped that no one is talking about: the U.S. military.
Journalist Abby Martin joined Francesca to talk about her new documentary, "Earth's Greatest Enemy” which takes a deep dive into how our military is by far the biggest contributor to the climate crisis.
When we think about the climate crisis, we focus on the oil companies, animal agriculture, and our own personal consumer choices. All of these things are factors, don’t get it twisted. And yet, somehow the biggest contributor of all is completely left out of the conversation.
The U.S. military blows everyone else out of the water, no pun intended, when it comes to global emissions. But when we are talking about things like a Green New Deal, Democrats completely fail to mention the endless funding for the Pentagon. Some Democrats, like Nancy Pelosi and Frank Pallone, go as far as to say we should give them more money. Why? Because “national security” and sea level rise = more ocean = more navy?? What even is this argument?
