I'm An American Trucker. How The Hell Do We Survive This?

Diesel prices have hit an all-time high in America, and today I don't want to talk about this like a news commentator.

I want to talk about it as an American trucker.

Every gallon of diesel that goes into this truck comes directly out of my pocket. When you're putting hundreds of gallons into a semi every week, even a small increase can completely change the economics of running a trucking business. At these prices, we're way beyond a small increase.

So what happens to the small owner-operators who are already trying to survive one of the most difficult freight markets we've seen in years?

How much more can we absorb?

I've spent years on this channel talking about the economy from the driver's seat of a semi truck. I've watched trucking companies disappear, drivers leave the industry, freight markets struggle and operating costs continue climbing.

Now diesel has reached record territory.

In this video, I'm putting a trucker's face on those numbers. I'll show you what these prices actually mean when you're responsible for buying the fuel, paying for the truck, maintaining the equipment and somehow trying to have something left over when the week is finished.

And this doesn't end with truck drivers.

Trucks move the food in your grocery store, the products on store shelves, building materials, manufacturing supplies and almost everything else Americans buy. When the cost of moving those goods explodes, eventually somebody has to pay for it.

Small truckers can't absorb these costs forever.

So I'm asking the question a lot of us are probably asking right now:
