Snowden Reveals Another NSA Spy Program

More revelations from Edward Snowden continue to come out that have the surveillance state in a continued state of panic.

These new documents show that the NSA the national spying agency, I mean the National Security Agency, can collect 100% of the phone calls for an entire country and replay them at will.

These tools known as MYSTIC and RETRO can "retrieve audio of interest that was not tasked at the time of the original call."

That's right the NSA has the power to tap, collect, and replay the calls of an entire country.

But somehow they still can't find a missing plane.

Oh but we've been assured that it was just metadata that was being collected, not the content.

It's pretty clear that the NSA is out of control, all the way since the first document was leaked by Edward Snowden.

What I want to know is how some Americans can continue to defend the NSA and its practices, especially under a Democratic President that promised to have the most transparent administration possible, and that promised to get away from the unconstitutional policies of

George W. Bush.

I also want to know why these same Americans are okay with doing continued character assassination of Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras, Edward Snowden, and others fighting the surveillance state

The people vilifying Snowden for going to Russia talk about Russia as if they and Snowden work together, they are not, and there is no proof of that. But they point to Russia and say "Oh look at Russia, they're so bad, why would someone run to Russia, look at how they treat people."

Those people are missing the point. It's not about Russia, not about Putin, not about Snowden, it's about the American government spying on Americans and assuming that every one of us is guilty.

The fact that Russia was the only place Snowden could go, doesn't invalidate his revelations, and doesn't make what he released from the government any less true, and any less damning. And certainly in my mind doesn't make his choice to flee after revealing the unconstitutional actions of the NSA any less understandable.

Knowing that President Obama has used the espionage act more than any president in history to punish whistleblowers for revealing what our government is actually doing in our name, and knowing that doing so would get you locked up for years just like Chelsea Manning did for revealing war crimes that were punished far less harshly than revealing these crimes...
