Bad news for those of you who use Electronic Cigarettes, L.A. and New York are among the newest places to have banned the E-Cig in public places. Instead treating them the same as normal tobacco cigarettes.
Now Electronic Cigarettes are not regulated by the FDA, and there are some things we don't know about them, but what we do know is that they're far less harmful to the smoker and to people around them than normal Tobacco Cigarettes, in fact there is no evidence right now to say they're harmful at all.
In a recent interview with Friend of the Show and avid "Vaper" Brad Friedman on KFPK pacifica radio Brad sat down with councilman Paul Koretz who voted for the ban in L.A. during which Koretz admitted that that there's a "99% possibility" that vaping is "much safer than smoking".
So why the ban? I mean if there is little evidence to support that this is harmful, unlike cigarettes in which there is a mountain of evidence showing that they're really bad for you, what would be the reason?
Some of the arguments against vaping are the classic "gateway drug" argument, and the argument that kids and teens will get ahold of it and then become smokers.
Another argument made against vaping is that you're trading one way of getting nicotine for another, and that it doesn't help get people away from smoking.
But what it comes down to me is that vaping doesn't seem like a public health issue, so the argument to me seems like it's just politicians saying that since these are like cigarettes, they're bad for you, even though we know they're not, we're going to treat them the same way, and ban them from public places, also, think of the children.
