Last Christmas, she walked into a grocery store and discovered her benefits balance was zero — because the Trump administration's restructuring of SNAP eliminated the caseworker who would have caught her employer's paperwork error.
She got her benefits back after an hour on the phone. 25% smaller than before. She has never recovered the difference.
The "One Big Beautiful Bill" cut SNAP by $175 billion over ten years. More than 3 million Americans are projected to lose access entirely. The cuts didn't target waste. The cuts targeted Sarah — and 41 million working Americans like her.
This is what the policy is actually for. Extraction. The missing zero on Sarah's benefits card is the same money that funded the donor-class tax cuts in the same legislation.
