10:24Now PlayingTrump's temporary tariff authority expired at midnight July 25th. Within hours, new Section 301 tariffs were live on goods from 60 economies — 10% for trading partners with forced-labor import bans, 12.5% for those without — and small businesses were in federal court before lunch.
Burlap & Barrel, a New York spice retailer, and Collective Horology, a California watch shop, filed suit in the U.S. Court of International Trade hours after the duties took effect, represented by the Liberty Justice Center — the same firm that took down the IEEPA tariff regime at the Supreme Court.
Learning Resources and hand2mind followed with a second suit. Their argument: Section 301 doesn't authorize a near-universal global tariff schedule, and the forced-labor frame is pretext for rebuilding a wall courts already killed twice.
Third statute. Third attempt. The fuse is lit while the lawyers fight — and buyers pay the costume fee in the meantime.
