20:06Now PlayingHasan Piker, the Democratic Socialists of America and Francesca Hong’s razor-thin Wisconsin primary loss are raising a bigger question: just how influential has the socialist left become inside Democratic politics?
Hong, a dues-paying DSA member, lost by only about 3,000 votes after previously appearing heavily favored to win. Her political record has included support for positions such as abolishing ICE, past calls to defund police, an “Abolish the Senate” post she later distanced herself from, and controversial comments about Thanksgiving.
The video also looks at Hasan Piker’s rhetoric and his support for figures on the socialist left, including clips involving Hezbollah, his past “America deserved 9/11” remark, his comments about patriotism, and his praise for Cea Weaver.
But the bigger argument is not simply that every Democrat agrees with Hasan Piker or the DSA.
They clearly don’t.
The question is whether a movement once treated as politically fringe has accumulated enough grassroots influence that Democratic politicians increasingly have to accommodate, campaign alongside or strategically avoid directly confronting it.
