In an interview with Laura Kuenssberg, Keir Starmer apparently reneged on a commitment to reverse the child benefits cap introduced by George Osborne - a move charities claim would have lifted 250,000 children out of poverty overnight.
The reversal angered many of Starmer’s own Labour MPs. Some say the Labour leader is determined to listen to poll results more than its own party members. Others suggest it is a prudent application of necessary fiscal discipline.
