A group of parents in the state of Florida have filed a lawsuit against Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, trying to overturn his ban on mask mandates, arguing that the ban puts our children in imminent danger as they headed back to school this week without statewide mask mandates. And in fact, as we all know, as we've talked about it, ad nauseum here, you also have districts that have implemented mask mandates and DeSantis has not only threatened to pull the funding from the schools, but he's threatening to withhold the salaries of the administrators of those counties who let the mask mandate stay in place. Oh, and by the way, also offering vouchers for private schools, for any child in a district where there is a mask mandate. So you can go to a private school, not have to cover your face on our dime. So yeah, this guy is intentionally putting children in danger in the state of Florida, much like Abbott in Texas, Asa Hutchinson over in Arkansas, they're all doing a similar version of this.

But this lawsuit filed by these parents is a direct challenge to the power of a state governor. This is a big one. This is one that could have ramifications across this country. If these parents are successful in the lawsuit, if they win, that sets the precedent that a governor is not going to be able to override the health, safety and welfare implementation plans of a city or county or school district. That would be a massive win for the country. If they lose, that's a massive win for Republican governors who want to pander to the dumbest people in their states by banning mask mandates, because here's the thing, folks, even if he hadn't banned mask mandates, we would still have counties here in the state that didn't put mask mandates in place. They would just make masks voluntary. But DeSantis had the one-up this and say, absolutely not. We're not going to muzzle our children. He actually came here to Northwest Florida yesterday and again, reiterated that he is not going to allow these mask mandates to be put in place.

And he said, the people best equipped to make those decisions are the parents. Well sure. If you're talking about whether or not your kid can go play near the street. Yeah, that's the parent's decision, right? If you're talking about what the kid has for dinner, the parent gets to make that decision. If you're talking about a deadly pandemic that has killed more than 40,000 people in your state alone, that suddenly is not the parents' choice anymore. That is a public health policy decision. And we can't leave that to tens of millions of different individuals, each making their own decision in this state. That's what's driving me crazy about all this. These people out there saying, I want to have my choice in this. You don't get it. You don't get that choice. Just like you don't get a choice on whether or not you want to drink a fifth of vodka and get behind the wheel because it's not just your life that you're endangering. It's everybody else on the road. Just like it is with schools. It's not just your child's health. It's everybody's child's health. It's my children's health.
