Republicans Do Bare Minimum After Senator Calls For Violence

Republican state senator Wendy Rogers was formally censured by the Republican-controlled Arizona Senate on Tuesday after speaking at a white nationalist rally this past weekend and calling for violence against those who disagree with her. A defiant Rogers said that she will not apologize for her comments before the vote took place. The censure is literally the bare minimum that Republicans could do, and it has zero effect on Rogers' role in the GOP. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Republicans in the state of Arizona decided that they would do the bare minimum after Republican state Senator Wendy Rogers not only spoke at a white nationalist rally this past weekend, but also called for violence against her political opponents. Specifically, she called for them to be hanged for their alleged crimes against the United States. Here is her exact statement. If we try some of these high level criminals, convict them and use a newly built set of gallows, it'll make an example for these traitors who have betrayed our country. They have yet to be justly punished for the crimes they have committed. Now we don't know who these traitors are that she's talking about, but I'm assuming she's not talking about, you know, the people who stormed the Capitol as part of the insurrection. She's not talking about the fake electors that attempted to overthrow the presidential election.

She's probably talking about anyone that disagrees with her politically, and she just said, let's build some gallows and hang them. So again, Republicans in the Arizona Republican controlled state legislature voted yesterday to censure her. Oh, terrifying, right? It is literally the bare minimum of what people could do. The bare minimum because censuring her just basically is a public acknowledgement, we don't like what you said. We don't like what you did. Bad you. And that's it. Everybody moves on. She doesn't lose committee assignments. She doesn't lose any power whatsoever. They just formally acknowledged that we weren't happy with a thing that you did, as dangerous and violent as it may be. So that's it. Live to find another day, right? No real punishment. Even though she, again called for violence and, by the way, before they took the vote to censure her, here's what she said.

I do not apologize. I will not back down. In the end, I rejoice in knowing I, I do and say, what is right and I speak as a free American. So she is completely unapologetic for saying these words about hanging people at a white nationalist rally. No remorse, no second guessing herself. Totally okay with it. And then of course, on Monday, prior to the vote to censure her on Tuesday, she said this on social media. She will personally destroy the career of any Republican who partakes in the gas lighting of me simply because of the color of my skin or opinion about a war I don't want to send our kids to die in. Not apologizing for being white. Hit me all you want. That, that actually sounds like the words of a white nationalist. Like, oh, I'm being persecuted because I'm white. Oh, I'm not gonna apologize for being white. No, nobody is going after you because you're white. Nobody's attacking you because of the color of your skin.

They're attacking you because you called for murders and of course, because you clearly are a little too friendly with the white nationalists, which of course is not the first time she's palled around with these people. But the censuring is so stupid. It does nothing. And especially now that we have other, you know, Republican members of Congress in Washington, DC, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, who spoke at the same event, nothing's gonna happen to them. They're not even gonna be censured. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert lashing out and shouting and heckling president Biden.
