4:02Now PlayingA groundbreaking new study paid regular Fox News viewers to switch to CNN for just one month, and researchers found that these people were significantly less likely to believe fake news within thirty days of making the switch. Even more remarkable is that many of the viewers already started to believe fewer lies within just three days. Conservative media's job is to keep people stupid, and that's really what this study confirmed, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

According to the results of a groundbreaking new study, Fox news viewers, no matter how radicalized they have become may not be completely gone. Here's what happened in this particular study. In September of 2020, researchers paid hundreds of Fox news viewers, regular Fox news viewers, that's where they got their information, they trusted it, paid them $15 an hour to watch at least seven hours a week of CNN. And they were not allowed by the way to watch Fox. What they found was that after 30 days, these people were less likely to believe fake news. They were less likely to believe lies. They also believed more truths about each candidate, Donald Trump and Joe Biden again, this was September, 2020 about their platforms and what the candidates said, believed and stood for. And here's the kicker. They started seeing these results in some of these people within three days of turning off Fox news and turning on a different network. I have often said that a lot of these conservatives, the ones that are out there that believe these ridiculous lies about Democrats, about whoever, that a lot of 'em are too far gone. This study proves me wrong and I'm glad. I'm glad to be wrong.
I'm glad to know that this country may not be as far gone as I had thought. If you can start changing people's perceptions, if you can get them within three days to at least somewhat start questioning the fake news they had always depended on, that's a game changer. That is a game changer. The problem of course, is that we can't do that with everybody. You know, we, we can't go pay every Fox news viewer, every Newsmax viewer, every One America viewer, we can't pay each one of them $15 an hour to not watch the propaganda. So how do we fix it? The researchers, unfortunately, didn't give us that answer. I unfortunately do not have that answer for you. But what I can tell you is that this study didn't just prove that people can be deradicalized, deprogrammed, essentially, but it showed us that the propaganda coming from right wing media outlets like Fox news is effective. That's the big takeaway for me because that's the point of this right wing media, to brainwash people, to get them to believe the lies, to get them to believe things that are not real. But as soon as you pull them out of that bubble, almost instantaneous, they start to get better. So that's what we need to work on. That's the goal. Get these people out of the bubbles. I don't know how to do it and I am open to suggestions. But we know it's possible. So now we gotta figure out a way to make it more widespread.
