Don McLaughlin. The mayor of Uvalde in Texas has come out this week and slammed the police force for their constant lies, misstatements their stories, changing nonstop, and of course, suing to prevent any of the body cam footage from the day of the Rob elementary school shooting from making its way to the public. Now here's what Mr. McLaughlin said. Colonel McGraw has continued to, whether you want to call it lie, leak, mislead, or misstate information in order to distance his own troopers and Rangers from the response, every briefing, he leaves out the number of his town, officers and Rangers that were on scene that day. Colonel McGraw has an agenda and it is not to present a full report on what happened and give factual answers on what happened to this community.
Now, we have learned quite a bit in the four weeks, since this shooting took place and everything we learned makes these police officers look even worse. You know, just this week we learned that they were allegedly waiting for a key to unlock the classroom door that wasn't even locked. We learned that they had enough manpower. Once they entered the building to where they could have taken the shooter down within three minutes, they had the gear, they were there, they were in the location. They could have done this, but missteps along the way, likely caused by fear, allowed more children and teachers to die. That's the bottom line that's what's happened here. And the mayor knows this. The mayor understands this. The mayor sees the suffering happening in his own community. And he wants answers just like the rest of us. This cannot be something that gets swept under the rug.
This cannot be something that just, we let go, right? We can't let time make us forget what happened with these police officers. They may not have been the ones inside that school, pulling the trigger on the children, but they are the reason that several of them are dead. And there's no escaping that fact. And they can lie. They can change their story. They can try to misdirect the public all they want, but every time they do the truth, somehow finds a way of getting out there to the public. And that's a good thing, but what's not a good thing is that we have police officers that we can't trust. We can't trust them to take action in a time of crisis. We can't even trust them to tell us what happened in that time of crisis. The fact that they're suing to prevent release of the body cam footage tells you everything that you need to know about these cowardly police officers and how they behaved that day that children were dying behind unlocked doors.
