3:56Now PlayingDonald Trump has been dethroned, and Florida's governor Ron DeSantis is the new king of the Republican Party. A new survey has come out showing that DeSantis is preferred candidate of a majority of Republicans, with the governor beating Trump by double digits. This has been a rapidly-evolving situation, with DeSantis closing a double digit gap between him and Trump in less than 2 months. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what this means for both Trump and the Republican 2024 field.

Folks, I am calling it right now. Donald Trump is no longer the Republican front runner for 2024. He has been deed and the new king is of course, Ron DeSantis. Another nationwide poll has come out now showing that Ron DeSantis is now the clear favorite of a majority of Republicans. Not only that, not only has he cracked 50% of the Republican support, he is beating Donald Trump by double digits. This latest poll shows that, uh, 50.9% of the Republican voters who participated in the poll would support Ron DeSantis while only 38.6% would support Trump. So he has a 12.3% lead over Donald Trump. Last time we had a national poll DeSantis was trailing Trump by 14 points. He's now beating him by 12.3 points. So he is made up 26 points to take over Donald Trump as the official front runner for the 2024 nomination. And I've gone over many times. Why DeSantis is obviously much more dangerous than Trump? I don't think I need to rehash that for everybody here, but here's the thing. Donald Trump is also paying very close attention to these numbers and the numbers with each poll that comes out continue to get worse for Donald Trump. So the longer Trump waits to make his announcement, the worse his poll numbers get.
So if he waits too long, we could be looking at a Donald Trump polling at 15%, maybe as high as 20 or 25%, but it is gonna continue to go down and DeSantis numbers are gonna continue to go up. And Trump is gonna be so hurt. So bloodied and bruised by the January 6th committee. That by the time he announces, most Republicans are gonna basically say, go away. We do not want you anymore. You're the past DeSantis is the future.
So Donald Trump is gonna find himself in a position to where he will be so weakened that his announcement will not have the effect that he is hoping for. And the effect of course, that he wants is to keep everybody else outta the race. You can't come in because I'm now in here. Ha ha, well, everybody else, not just Ron DeSantis, people like Nikki Haley, people like Ted Cruz, Tom cotton, Josh Holly, Mike Pompeo, Mike Pence, all of those people that have been, you know, tossed around Christie. No is another one they're gonna look at Trump's pull numbers and say, well, hold up, hold up now, bud. You're you're actually not polling very well. So why would I sit out when you are clearly beatable? So you will end up with a fairly crowded, I think Republican field for 2024 and Trump will not be the front runner. He already is not the front runner. I know if you take the aggregates. Yes, it says he is. But I'm telling you the trends we are seeing are terrible for Donald Trump. He is not the current front runner. That distinction goes to Ron DeSantis and trust me, that's far worse than Donald Trump.
