Dan Crenshaw Wants To Change The Laws To Go After Trump's 'Enemies'

Republican Representative Dan Crenshaw has become the latest member of the GOP to buy into the false narrative that there was "something" to the Durham Report, and after Durham failed to call for any criminal charges, Crenshaw got on Twitter to say that laws need to be changed in order to prosecute and "lock up" members of the intelligence community. Republicans keep looking for evidence that the government is being weaponized to target political enemies, and they should be looking in the mirror if they want to find it, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Republican representative Dan Crenshaw this week was furious that the Durham report did not call for any additional prosecutions or arrests and really didn't even make any substantial recommendations whatsoever. So Crenshaw has come up with a new idea because even though Durham said that, Hey, sometimes just cuz you don't, you don't like something, doesn't mean it's criminal. Crenshaw says, well, let's just make it criminal then Let's criminalize the things we don't like. Here's what Crenshaw wrote on Twitter this week. I've never, never been a reactive lock 'em up type, but this Durham report is a lock 'em up moment. We should be looking for statutes that apply to these egregious violations of public trust. If they don't exist, it's time we create them. So it never happens again. So when the law doesn't go the way that you want it to when somebody annoys you, but it's not necessarily illegal.

Dan Crenshaw wants us to go out there and actually make that annoyance illegal. He wants to make those imaginary Republican grievances illegal so that he can lock up what your political enemies Trump's political enemies. Who exactly are you trying to protect here? Which faction of the United States are you trying to criminalize right now? Dan Crenshaw, because that is what you're doing. Durham went by the book, he saw things he didn't like. It doesn't make him illegal. He even said that. He starts his report by saying not every injustice or transgression amounts to a criminal offense. The law does not always make a person's bad judgment, even horribly bad judgment, standing alone a crime. So even Durham's like, yeah, I didn't like these things, but they're not crimes, they're not criminal activities, so what the hell do y'all want me to do? And Crenshaw says, don't worry Durham, I'll take it from here and I'll make these things illegal, maybe even retroactively we don't know.

And that way we can then lock all these people up. Okay? Cuz that that's exactly how the United States works. When somebody does something you don't like, if it's not illegal, you just write a new law to make it illegal so that you can punish that person for your own political vindictiveness. Right? That's what we're dealing with with the Republicans. They're so mad. I know a lot of 'em are still out there celebrating the Durham report saying, oh, this means we gotta impeach all these people. But deep down they're all like Dan Crenshaw because Crenshaw, believe it or not, still understands reality. He understands that the Durham report was a massive nothing burger because there's nothing he can do about it. That's what's him off. And I think that's what's off a lot of Republicans across the country. They wanted it to be something they waited for four years for it to be something

Only to get smacked down so spectacularly by the guy that Bill Barr picked to lock 'em all up. And now that he can't lock 'em up, people like Crenshaw just want us to change the laws of the United States to make anything that they don't like. An offense that could land you in jail.
