Fired Florida Prosecutor Says Ron DeSantis Punished Her For Prosecuting Corrupt Cops

Monique Worrell, the second Democratically-elected state prosecutor fired by Ron DeSantis in the past year, says that the governor was upset with her because she was taking on corruption in the police force and working on prosecuting corrupt cops. DeSantis has made protecting and elevating police officers a central theme of his administration, even though it has meant putting citizens at risk of abuse. Monique War, the democratically elected Democrat DA in Central Florida that was recently fired or suspended by Ron DeSantis for allegedly not prosecuting criminals, has now come out and said that the reason she was fired, she believes, is because she was in fact taking on criminals through her office. The problem is she was taking on the wrong kind of criminals. The kind of criminals that DeSantis and the Republicans seem to be perfectly fine with. Those criminals, of course, are police officers in central Florida. That is what War's office was investigating. She was taken down crooked cops. And that she believes, is why Ron DeSantis said, Hey, I know you're democratically elected and I'm acting like a little fascist, but I have to fire you. Now, here's the thing. DeSantis has made a name for himself here in the state of Florida with being the guy that backs the blue, right?

Blue Lives Matter. Ron DeSantis, he's attracted cops from all over the country. Come on down to Florida, be a cop. I'll give you a $5,000 bonus. And hell, plenty of cops have taken 'em up on that offer. They've moved down here from all over the country and from precincts where they were under investigation for things like killings and sexual assaults and abuse. Excessive force. Yeah, those are the people that Ron DeSantis attracted down here in Florida to be cops. And Ms. Wl was taking on those kinds of cops, getting them out of the system. But that's what made Ron DeSantis mad. She also explained, 'cause one of the talking points, by the way, about uh, uh, DeSantis firing her, they say, oh, she's soft on crime. She had a gang member, you know, a known gang member that she refused to prosecute, just let him go.

Well, she explained that away too with that specific case. She said they took him into custody without a warrant, went into his pants pocket without a warrant, clicked a key fob without a warrant, went into his car without a warrant. There's this little thing called unreasonable search and seizure, and you can't get evidence without a warrant. We were unable to go forward with charges because it was an illegal search and seizure and we had lots of communication with the Sheriff's office about this case, trying to salvage the case as the state attorney. We're not here to rubber stamp what the Sheriff's office does. We can't condone that. So once again, crooked cops trying to bust this guy who, if you'd done real police work, probably wouldn't have been hard to bust him anyway if you knew he was a gang member, right? But you didn't follow the law. You violated this gang member's

Constitutional rights and now you're mad that she couldn't prosecute. 'cause the case would've been immediately thrown out of court. We would've raised, wasted a ton of resources on it, only for it to be dismissed. But she was taken down the cops, she was going after the corruption in the system itself. And as DeSantis has made clear, you cannot take on that system. No, it's a system. He's created, a system he is proud of, and if it's corrupt, then by God, you better shut your mouth and let it be corrupt. Or DeSantis is coming after you.
