During a hearing in the Senate this week that was dealing with racism and hate crimes in the United States, Republican Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana decided to embrace racism and hatred. Apparently he, he misconstrued what the meeting was supposed to be and decided to go full on racist against a Muslim woman that was testifying about racism in the United States. The woman was Maya Berry, the executive director of the Arab American Institute, and she was testifying about hate crimes in the United States. And apparently Republican Senator Kennedy, the man who told us in his last campaign, ad that next time you're in trouble call a crack ad. Here is how he began his questioning to this woman who again happens to be a Muslim. He started by saying, you support Hamas, do you not? So right off the bat, that is a loaded question implying that she does support a terrorist organization.

So she responds and says, Senator, oddly enough, I'm going to say thank you for that question because it demonstrates the purpose of our hearing today. So she's there to talk about racism and hate crimes. And the first question is loaded with racism, right? Like you're a Muslim, so obviously you support terrorist organizations. That's the point Kennedy was attempting to make and he continued. He said, let's start first with a yes or no. It's real simple. And then she says, as a Muslim woman, sir, I'm going to tell you I do not support Iran, but uh oh, I'm sorry, I've missed a page here. 'cause that gets into a little bit of, uh, the future here. She says, Hamas is a foreign terrorist organization that I do not support. But you asking the executive director of the Arab American Institute, that question very much puts the focus on the issue of hate in our country.

To that the room applauded and that Kennedy off. And he said, well, I got your answer and I appreciate it. What is the, you support Hezbollah too, don't you? Okay, so if you don't support one horrible group, what about this one? And she said, again, I find this line of questioning extraordinarily disappointing. And Kennedy says, is that a no? Barry responds, you have the Arab American constituents that you represent in your great state. And Kennedy interrupt interrupts and says, yes ma'am, I understand that, but my time's limited and I apologize, but it's not a yes or a no. They then go back and forth a little bit and eventually Kennedy asks, do you support or oppose Iran and their hatred at Jews? Barry says, again, I'm not going to emphasize Iran. Hezbollah, Hamas. None of them is going to, you can't bring yourself to say no can you? And she says, sir, I don't support them.

And then Kennedy says, it's real simple. And she goes, excuse me. Then there's a lot of crosstalk. And she continues and goes, as a Muslim woman, sir, I'm going to tell you I did not support Iran. But what I will tell you is that this conversation, Kennedy, and erupt her at that point, says, I'm running outta time. You called our decision to cut funding. Then they talk about the U-N-R-W-A, which is a United Nations program to help support financially Palestinian refugees. So they go back and forth on that for a little bit. And then it comes to a head at the end of the questioning, Kennedy says, you don't support U-N-R-W-A. You don't support Hamas. You don't support. And Barry says, I was very clear in my support for U-N-R-W-A. Kennedy says, you should hide your head in a bag.
