According to multiple different reports this past week, the Trump administration is currently in the process of trying to figure out how to completely dismantle the United States Department of Education with official actions expected to come sometime later this month. So within the next couple weeks, we could see the United States Department of Education completely destroyed because of Donald Trump. Now, I have talked in the past about what a disaster that would be for education throughout the United States, both K through 12 education and higher education. It would disproportionately impact low income communities. It would impact low income students who rely on Pell Grants, uh, grants, and other kind of federal awards to be able to afford to go to college. All of that disappears overnight. If we get rid of the US Department of Education and Trump wants to do it, the only problem is there, there're a little bit of a disconnect in his White House right now about how to do it.

So according to the reports, there are several things that can happen. One is he issues an executive order. Well, you can't actually destroy a federal government or eliminate it through an executive order that would actually take an act of Congress, which I'll get to in a minute. But what Trump can do via an executive order is he can reassign duties of the Department of Education to other government departments. Then once you move them to other departments, you can eliminate that from that particular department. So basically you take it apart piece by piece, you know, like you're stripping the copper wire out of a building, and that's what Donald Trump is likely going to do. The only issue is he can't just immediately do that, right? Because we do have federal funding, federal dollars going to this agency appropriated by Congress. So they do have to be used for those things.

So any executive order he signs could not go into effect while these, uh, the department itself is being funded. Well, that's where the act of Congress comes in because the government's only being funded for another two months. Republicans are scrambling to come up with some kind of budget. Bill Trump says he wants one big beautiful bill, but Republicans say we may have to put it into two, but whether it's 1, 2, 30 5,000, doesn't matter. What Republicans can do is strip all funding from the US Department of Education from their budget bill. And if they don't want to go that right route, excuse me, they could literally just write into the legislation. Also, we are officially abolishing the United States Department of Education. That would be the act of Congress and they could stick it in

A must pass bill, like the budget bill and get it done. There are multiple different avenues. And see, the thing is when I mention that there's some squabbling in the White House about how to do this, what can we do? It's not because they're unsure of how to do it, it's because they have multiple different ways they could do it, and they're just trying to figure out which one would be the most efficient. It tears me apart to say this, but the United States Department of Education is probably not going to exist, come summertime. So starting in the 20 25, 20 26 school year, we will not have a Department of Education. And I know right wingers and Trump himself says this, but that just means the federal dollars for education are gonna go to the states. And then the states decide, oh, you mean the same states where 31 outta the 50 states in this country have budget deficits and can't even afford to do the things they need to do, we're just gonna shovel money into them and hope that they spend it on education.
