7:52Now PlayingCharles Blow sits down with Vince Warren, executive director for the Center for Constitutional Rights, on the fight to end qualified immunity in the George Floyd Policing Act.
House Majority Whip Rep. Jim Clyburn said he was willing to remove the qualified immunity provision from the bill to better its chances of passage.
“The only reason that I can think the Republicans are so hellbent on saying no to anything that changes qualified immunity is that they like their officers shielded. They like the idea that there’s a way that the law operates that it’s almost automatic that police officers get dismissed out of lawsuits when they’re on the hook for their unconstitutional act,” Warren tells Hill.
