Clarke faces intense scrutiny from Republicans who attacked her on her past views on policing.
"A lot of it was about politics and a great deal of it was about race, and it was unfair," Hoffler says. "The level of scrutiny that she sustained was in large was because of her race, but of course, she's a woman."
