“A study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that only 12.5%of employers would even consider hiring someone with a criminal record,” Hill says.
Weaver’s portrays a character on “The Chi” that experiences some of those challenges.
“I’ve had friends of mine who struggled with their mental health as well coming out the system,” Weaver says. Adding that he thinks one challenge that the formerly incarcerated face when they reenter society is remaining motivated in the face of rejection.
