Dorothy Oliver realized that most people in her hometown of Panola, Alabama were not vaccinated, but she decided to do something. The closest town with a vaccine center was about 40 miles away and a lot of people in her town don't have cars.
Oliver and county commissioner Drucilla Russ-Jackson brought a pop-up vaccine center to the town. They had to first get at least 40 people to sign up to get the shot before health care workers would set it up. Oliver called friends and family and went door-to-door to sign people up.
As a result, Panola has a 94% vaccination rate among adults.
