31-year-old Ashley Jones became the youngest and first-ever Black poet to be named Alabama's poet laureate. Jones, who founded the Magic City Poetry Festival, will serve as the ambassador of poetry for the state. She will tour the state, making appearances at schools, universities, libraries and other state institutions. She will be giving lectures, reading poetry and holding workshops on a local and national level.
