The disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. While mortality rates continue to fall, new studies show Black women in the United States are more likely to die from breast cancer, regardless of when they are diagnosed. For Black women under the age of 40, the prognosis is worse.
In the first part of the "Be Well" series, BNC introduces viewers to a breast cancer survivor who says medical racism nearly missed her diagnosis at age 31. Later, oncologist Dr. Vivian Bea shares the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
