0:59Tashanea Whitlow is joined by political contributor Tezlyn Figaro as she starts “BNC Live” with a “disturbing” government report indicating more than half of police killings in the US are not reported.
The report found that from 1980 to 2018, 55% of deaths were unreported or misclassified, which comes out to 17,000 deaths in a 40-year period. In a clip aired on “BNC Live,” co-first study author Eve Wool said Black Americans were three and a half times more likely to be killed by police than white Americans. Hispanic and Indigenous Americans were almost twice as likely to be killed. “For 400 years, we have seen the injustice of Black Americans and how Black Americans are treated and how the narrative has been changed as far as what we say and what we know,” said Figaro. Referencing Emmett Till and others who died in prisons, Figaro said their Black lives didn’t even matter enough for their families to be told the truth about what happened to them.
