BNC correspondent Stephanie Bertini caught up with Acevedo to learn more about his short stint as the Miami Chief of Police. “I’m disappointed with the fact that I was heavily recruited by the mayor [Francis Xavier Suarez], by the city manager [Arthur Noriega] to come and effect change,” Acevedo said. “The second we started to hit some stormy weather, the captain abandoned ship.” Acevedo held the same position at the Houston Police Department, and Austin Police Department, following a career with the California Highway Patrol. He received national attention for speaking out against former President Donald Trump’s administration, marching with Black Lives Matter protestors after George Floyd was killed and championing for police reform. The former chief of police said he was attacked as a minority for being “a soldier of the law.”
