8:23Now PlayingDespite communities of color spurring Texas’ population growth in the last decade, the state’s new congressional map brazenly decreases the number of Hispanic and Black-majority districts.
Texas legislature approved new gerrymandered maps that protect Republican incumbents who have seen their districts turn competitive, and also limits the influence of voters of color.
The new maps decrease the number of Hispanic-majority districts from eighth to seven and leaves zero Black-majority districts. White-majority districts, on the other hand, grew from 22 to 23 districts.
Texas State Democratic Executive Committee member Jen Ramos joins Charles Blow on “Prime” to share her thoughts on passage of the maps.
